Riptide secures first win of the season!
Well, our first tournament came and went this past weekend, and it’s easy to see the team has improved considerably. After a rough opening match against the University of Florida, the Tide came back to defeat Orlando 7-6. The win was followed by a rematch with FAU. Two weeks ago, the Owls tore the Riptide apart, but this match would not be so easy for FAU as the Tide came out confident and focused, going into halftime down by only 3 points. Unfortunately, the lack of substitute options and a few rookie mistakes cost us a win. But rest assured that the Florida Rugby community as a whole now knows we are a not a team to take lightly.

Sunshine State Games this Saturday!
The Sunshine State Games are being held this Saturday, May 15, at Pine Island Park. The Riptide will be there and are playing the University of Florida at noon. We will have a tent with drinks and snacks for all of our supporters. Hope to see all of our friends and fans out there. Cheers!

I am coming home!
Yours truly is coming home boys. From what I hear, conditioning was an issue against FAU.
Fair warning– that is going to be an issue of the past now that I’m back in Pines. Bring plenty of water, because we are entering the competetive domain and 7 minute halves are going to be balls to the wall.
One in, all in.

Scrimmage: Riptide vs Fau
Pembroke Pines Riptide Rugby opened their second season against Florida Atlantic University on April 28th 2010.
This match marked the first for most of the players on the team, who under the leadership of team captain and president, Chris Muñoz, have all begun to develop into serious rugby players.
The scrimmage which consisted of two separate matches, each with 7 minute half’s, was a great lesson for the guys. Winger, Josh Redondo, scored a try in the first half of the second match after receiving the ball from wonderful backline passing, demonstrating the potential this team has in upcoming matches and their ability to penetrate defenses and score.
Some of the Riptide Rugby players are FAU Alumn, and the camaraderie between the two teams was evident on Thursday night. After the match, both teams gathered at “The Irishmen” bar in Boca Raton to celebrate with drink, song, and stories.
The season is now officially underway as the first match has concluded. Ride the Tide!
